Manchester United closing in on world-record transfer deal for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku

Manchester United are set to hijack Chelsea’s summer move for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, according to reports.
The Belgian appeared on the verge of a return to Stamford Bridge after another superb season at Goodison Park, in which he scored 25 Premier League goals.

But United have held interest in Lukaku for several months and the Daily Mail say Jose Mourinho is ready to spend £100million to bring him to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese boss is in the market for a star striker after Zlatan Ibrahimovic was released by the club following a serious injury.
Mourinho made Antoine Griezmann his priority target earlier in the summer but, after missing out on the Atletico Madrid man, has turned to alternative targets.

The Belgium international has scored 53 goals since joining the Toffees in 2014, developing into one of the most formidable strikers in Europe.
The Toffees are resigned to losing Lukaku in the coming weeks but will hold out for £100m and could also attempt to land Wayne Rooney as part of the deal.
Rooney, 31, is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and is said to be keen on a return to Goodison, where he started his career 15 years ago.
