DE GEA: REDS ARE READY FOR PALACE TEST
Goalkeeper David De Gea has shed some light on how Manchester United’s players are managing the demands of a busy fixture schedule.
Three days after beating Tottenham Hotspur and less than a week after playing in Ukraine, the Reds are back in action at Crystal Palace tonight [Wednesday], before visiting West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
De Gea admits that, at this time of the year, the players have to prioritise rest and recuperation, with the next test always just around the corner – though he knows United can now concentrate on Premier League matters, with the cup competitions put on the backburner until the New Year.
"At the moment, the most important thing for the players is recovery, because we’re playing a game every three days," the Spaniard told MUTV.
"So we recover, then train a bit, watch videos of the teams and try to be ready for the games.
"Now we have only the league games and, of course, we need to be really focused on them, try to play good football and keep winning, in order to be as high as possible in the table."
United head into the Selhurst Park encounter buoyed by Sunday’s 1-0 win over Spurs, though De Gea is expecting a busy night against an Eagles side whose lowly league position belies their attacking threat.
Alan Pardew’s side lie 15th in the table and are just three points above the relegation zone, but have scored more goals than any team outside the top four.
“It’s not an easy game,” De Gea insisted. “They score in almost every game and have good players going forward, like [Christian] Benteke, [Wilf] Zaha and [Andros] Townsend.
“They are a good team and we’ll need to play really good football to beat them.”
